Global warming, what is it?
Global warming is the result of having greenhouse gases such as too much carbon dioxide in the air. Carbon is a colourless odourless gas which is naturally present in the air. This causes great destruction to our Earth and one of these consequences is global warming.
The air consists of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.3 % carbon, and other gases such as argon, helium and neon which take up less than 1%. If the amount of carbon increases the Earth with undoubtedly see it's end.
Having too much carbon can result in things such as :
The reason things like the ones listed above will begin to occur is because carbon dioxide is a gas that captures heat and with increasing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere the insolation (heat) from the sun coming through the ozone layer will more likely stay in the atmosphere.

Having too much carbon can result in things such as :
- The ocean acidifying.
- Temperature increases
- More droughts
- More flooding
- More natural disasters such as cyclones, tornadoes, etc.
The reason things like the ones listed above will begin to occur is because carbon dioxide is a gas that captures heat and with increasing carbon dioxide in our atmosphere the insolation (heat) from the sun coming through the ozone layer will more likely stay in the atmosphere.
The trapped heat starts a large chain reaction. First of all the heat will cause the polar ice caps and ice bergs to melt, this results in the ocean increasing in size making islands start to disappear, more tsunamis, more flooding, less ice for animals such as polar bears and seals to live and inadvertently more natural disasters of higher categories.
The ocean acidifying will make it uninhabitable for animals such as fish and dolphins, sharks and shell fish that are important to the food chain or that we eat. The acid will cause the shells of things like mussels, paua, pipi, crab and more to disintegrate , leaving only their membrane which acts as a kind of skin. This can make them a lot more vulnerable and because of the acid in the ocean, will become inedible.
